Why Marvel Rivals Has No FOV Slider
Marvel Rivals ships with a fixed field of view on PC and console, and there is no menu option to change it. That has been true since the December 2024 launch. Players have asked for both a slider and a shoulder-swap option since week one; neither has arrived.
It’s a defensible design choice. First-person shooters need FOV sliders because the default view is often uncomfortably narrow and because monitor size varies enormously between players. A third-person camera sidesteps both problems — it already sits behind and above your hero, handing you peripheral awareness no first-person player gets. Locking it also keeps engagement ranges identical for everyone, which matters when abilities are balanced around specific distances.
So the question worth asking isn’t “how do I widen my FOV.” It’s “how much of my screen is carrying useful information.” In a game where a Vanguard, two Duelists and a Strategist can all fire abilities into the same doorway, that’s the difference that decides fights.

No, Center Gap Does Not Change Your FOV
Several guide sites claim you can simulate a wider field of view by lowering the Center Gap value. This is wrong, and it’s worth being direct about because the claim is spreading.
What Center Gap actually is: the size of the gap in the middle of your crosshair — the distance between the reticle’s inner edges. It is a UI element drawn on top of the rendered image.
What it does not do: move the camera, change the projection, or reveal a single additional pixel of the game world. Changing it cannot make you see more.
Why it’s still worth tuning: a gap that’s too tight hides the target you’re shooting at behind your own reticle. That’s a real benefit — it just isn’t field of view.

Best Marvel Rivals Settings by Role
Marvel Rivals sorts heroes into Vanguard, Duelist and Strategist. Graphics settings should stay identical across all of them — only sensitivity and shake tolerance really change.
Vanguard
40–50cm/360° · Tank
You absorb more incoming effects than anyone, so shake punishes you hardest — all of it off. Lower sensitivity suits holding space and tracking rather than flicking.
Duelist
30–45cm/360° · Damage
You pick distant moving silhouettes out of a busy screen. Motion blur off without exception, shadows low so enemies don’t blend into dark geometry at range.
Dive Duelist
25–35cm/360° · Flanker
Spider-Man, Psylocke, Black Panther. Movement abilities plus camera shake is the worst combination in the game for tracking. Lowest effects — you land mid-fight and need the squishiest target instantly.
Strategist
30–40cm/360° · Support
You track allies and enemies at once. Shake off — being jolted mid-heal costs teammates. The dive arrives from behind you, so turn speed is a survival stat.

Do These Settings Affect FPS?
Some do, some don’t — and knowing which is which tells you what to change for which reason.
Frames drop only in team fights?
That’s a CPU bottleneck. Effect count, physics and simultaneous ability instances all load the CPU, which is why Marvel Rivals runs fine walking to the point and craters when six players start firing. Reducing effects density is your highest-value change.
Frames low everywhere?
That’s GPU-bound. Shadows, global illumination, post-processing and motion blur are the levers. Note that camera and screen shake are essentially free to render — turn them off for clarity, not frames.
One rule above all: a stable 120 FPS feels better to aim at than an average of 165 that repeatedly drops to 70. Watch your 1% lows, not your average, and cap slightly below your refresh rate.

Marvel Rivals and Valorant are the two locked-FOV titles here — but for opposite reasons. Valorant locks it to keep a first-person competitive baseline identical for everyone. Marvel Rivals locks it because a third-person camera already delivers the peripheral awareness a slider would be giving you.

Getting the Most From a Locked Camera
What kills you in Marvel Rivals is rarely something you couldn’t have seen. It’s something you couldn’t pick out. Jeff’s ultimate, Scarlet Witch’s beams, Groot’s walls and half a dozen hit markers can occupy the same twenty degrees of screen. Optimising here means removing everything that competes with an enemy silhouette for your attention.
Fix contrast, not brightness
Cranking brightness to maximum is a common instinct and usually the wrong move. It lifts the black point, which flattens the contrast between a hero silhouette and the background behind it. Set brightness so dark corners are readable but not grey.
Change one setting at a time
The classic error is changing shake, blur, effects, sensitivity and crosshair in one sitting. If your aim then gets worse, you’ve learned nothing about which change caused it. One variable per session, tested in the Practice Range first and then in real matches — the Practice Range has none of the visual chaos that makes these settings matter.
Don’t copy a pro’s sensitivity
Graphics settings copy safely — those are mostly objective. Sensitivity doesn’t. Theirs was built around their desk space, mousepad, monitor and thousands of hours of muscle memory. Revisit after major patches
Seasonal updates add heroes with dense new visual effects, and occasionally new settings. A configuration tuned three seasons ago may be leaving clarity on the table now. Otherwise, once you’ve found something that works, leave it alone — frequent changes stop muscle memory from ever settling.

Indirectly. Shake doesn’t move your crosshair relative to the world, but it adds visual movement you didn’t initiate, which makes small tracking corrections harder to judge and can hide the frames where an enemy changes direction. Most competitive players turn it off.
